Storage virtualization is the pooling of physical storage from multiple network storage devices into what appears to be a single storage device that is managed from a central console. Application virtualization separates applications from the hardware and the operating system, putting them in a container that can be relocated without disrupting other systems. The cost of restoring the lost information or restoring a computer to operation after a hardware or software failure is high due to the costs of technical support and lost employee productivity. With the Cisco UCS 82598KR-CI adapters, a maximum of two adapters are presented to the VMware ESX hypervisor running on the blade. This interface count does not support a fabric failover, and the service console must be migrated to the Cisco Nexus 1000V Series Switch along with all these other adapter types if any high-availability requirement exists.
